Coalition Calls for Humane Conditions at BLM Holding Facilities
Saving America’s Mustangs and it’s colleagues for the preservation of Wild Horses have come together to urge the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to provide humane treatment at holding facilities during the sweltering summer months. Although the BLM requires adopters of wild horses and burros to provide the animals with shelter from the elements, the agency does not adhere to its own standards in its short-term holding corralls. As a result, thousands of wild horses and burros have had to endure punishing temperatures in BLM holding pens throughout the West, with no escape from the sun and heat. The agency will also be gathering 1300 wild horses through the end of September of 2013 during extreme heat advisories.
Please address your letter to Neil Kornze, Principal Deputy Director of the Bureau of Land Management.
